At Poppet’s Bassets, we raise Basset Hounds with purpose, patience, and a deep love for the breed. Our dogs are selected for sound structure, steady temperaments, beautiful breed type, and the soulful charm that makes Poppet’s Bassets impossible to forget.

Whether destined for the show ring or a treasured couch, each puppy is raised with care, socialization, and thoughtful placement in mind.

Poppet wasn’t just a dog. She was my daughter in every way that mattered.
She leaves behind her own daughter, Hazelnut, and a legacy of sixteen grandpups, each one carrying a little trait of her.

Her favorite toy was Fox, who was loved and lost through generations of litters.
And yes—sometimes Poppet bit for no reason at all, which, honestly, was just proof that she was my daughter. Sometimes you just need to bite someone.

I think the greatest days of her life happened on a hike along the canal at Great Falls, when she discovered a deer leg. Not a stick. Not a leaf. A deer leg.

And I will always wonder if the Squirrel I found on my living room floor was actually caught by her, or she just drug it inside as a trophy.

She loved walks, but they usually ended with a Flat-Basset. She loved belly rubs and her favorite snack was Pop(pet) Corn, both of which were necessary when sitting in her spot on the couch.

Poppet was opinionated, stubborn, affectionate, occasionally feral, and endlessly herself.
She took up space. She made her presence known, sometimes too loudly.
My heart and the world are quieter without her. I will miss choir practice and you braying at every siren.

She lives on in Hazelnut, in those sixteen grandpups, in every tail that wags, and in every moment when love and attitude collide.
